TRADITIONAL EXPERIENCE

What Is a Turkish Hammam?

The Turkish hammam is a deep-rooted tradition of cleansing and relaxation that dates back to Ottoman times. It's not just about physical cleanliness — it's also a search for spiritual renewal and calm.

At Nova Spa Antalya, we combine this centuries-old tradition with modern hygiene standards and the warm hospitality of the Mediterranean. Experience the scrub-and-foam ritual with professional hammam masters, in an authentic setting built around a heated marble platform.

EXPERIENCES

Our Hammam Experience

We offer every ritual of the traditional Turkish hammam in Nova Spa's hygienic setting.

Heated Marble & Steam

Spend 15-20 minutes sweating on the heated marble platform to prepare your body for the steam; pores open and skin becomes ready for the scrub.

Professional Scrub

Our experienced hammam masters gently remove dead skin with the traditional kese mitt, leaving your skin smooth and radiant.

Foam Massage

Your whole body is gently washed and massaged in rich, natural hammam-soap foam for a truly cleansing feeling.

Classic Massage

After the scrub and foam, a traditional hammam massage relaxes your muscles and gets your circulation going.

Hot-Cold Shower

The ritual closes with a hot-then-cool shower that closes the pores and revives circulation.

Rest & Refreshments

Afterwards, unwind in our lounge area with Turkish tea and refreshments.

How Does a Hammam Session Work?

A hammam session unfolds in four stages — warming up, scrub, foam and rest — and takes 60-90 minutes in total. Even in Antalya's warm climate, the hammam has its own particular kind of relief: your body adjusting to the heat, your skin getting ready for the scrub, and the slow cool-down at the end are as much a part of the experience as anything else.

  1. Welcome and preparation — You're given your own pestemal wrap and single-use essentials; you change in your cabin and, if you like, shower before heading into the hammam.
  2. Warming up on the heated marble (15-20 min) — Lying on the heated marble platform, you begin to sweat in the steamy air. This stage opens the pores and slowly relaxes both muscles and mind.
  3. Scrub (10-15 min) — Our experienced hammam master works over your whole body methodically with a kese mitt, gently lifting away dead skin. You can mention the pressure you prefer at any time — a scrub should be rhythmic, not harsh.
  4. Foam massage (15-20 min) — Rich foam covers the body; long, flowing strokes both wash and relax you at the same time. Most of our guests name this stage as the most enjoyable part.
  5. Rinse and cool-down — A warm-to-cool rinse follows, and the pores gradually close.
  6. Rest and refreshments — In our lounge area, your pulse settles back to normal over Turkish tea and refreshments. We recommend not skipping this final 10-15 minutes.

First time at a hammam?

Feeling a little unsure before your first session is completely normal. Our hammam operates on a private-use basis: your session takes place in the time and space set aside for you, not in a shared area. The pestemal wrap stays on throughout the session, and privacy rules are followed carefully during the scrub and foam stages. Whether you're visiting Antalya on holiday or you live in the city, you're welcomed with the same care — feel free to ask any questions by phone before your session or at reception.

What Are the Benefits of a Turkish Hammam?

Above all, a Turkish hammam offers a deep sense of cleansing and relaxation: hot steam softens the muscles, the scrub clears away dead skin cells, and the foam massage leaves you feeling thoroughly relaxed. Guests with a regular hammam habit most often mention softer skin, better sleep, and lighter shoulders and back.

  • Skin renewal: The scrub physically removes the layer of dead skin cells, leaving skin visibly smoother and able to breathe.
  • Muscle relaxation: The heat helps ease muscles tightened by a long working day or a day at the beach.
  • Better circulation: The shift between hot and cool creates a noticeable feeling of lightness and vitality.
  • A mental break: 60-90 uninterrupted, phone-free minutes — the sound of steam and water is a genuine escape for the mind.
  • Getting ready for massage: Because the hammam softens the muscles, a massage session the same day tends to feel noticeably more effective.

An important note: the hammam is not a medical treatment. For any health condition, always follow your doctor's advice. Be sure to read the "who should take care" section below.

What Should You Bring to the Hammam?

Short answer: you don't need to bring anything. The pestemal wrap, scrub mitt, towels and slippers are all prepared fresh and single-use for every guest at our salon. Still, a few small tips to make your experience more comfortable:

  • Eat something light 1-2 hours before your session; the hammam isn't as enjoyable on either a full or an empty stomach.
  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day; in Antalya's warm climate you'll sweat more, so hydration before and after matters.
  • Leave jewellery, watches and glasses in your cabin; metal accessories can be uncomfortable in the heat.
  • Because the scrub renews the skin, heavy sun exposure and sunbeds aren't recommended the same day — it's more comfortable to plan your beach day before or after your hammam visit.
  • Build in 15-20 minutes to rest after your session; rushing off straight after the hammam takes away from the experience.

Who should be careful before using the hammam?

The hot, steamy environment isn't suitable for everyone. If you're pregnant, or have a heart or circulation condition, blood-pressure issues, a fever or have recently had surgery, please check with your doctor before using the hammam. If you feel weak or dizzy during your session, let our staff know right away — we can shorten the session at any moment.

Hygiene & Privacy

Your hygiene and privacy are our top priority at Nova Spa Antalya. All of our tools are disinfected using modern sterilisation methods after every use.

Single-use materials: Scrub mitts, pestemal wraps, towels and other personal items are new for every guest.

Private cabins: Our hammam operates on a private-cabin system. Every session takes place in a fully private, discreet setting.

Professional team: All of our hammam masters and staff hold health certificates and go through regular training.

Why Choose the Nova Spa Antalya Hammam?

People looking for a hammam in Muratpaşa and across Antalya choose us for three reasons: hygiene, privacy and completeness. All textiles and scrub materials are single-use; sessions run on a private basis; and you can combine the hammam with a massage, a sauna or a full spa programme to plan a complete day of renewal in a single visit. A hammam break offers the same relief whether it follows a long day on the beach in Konyaaltı or Lara, or a demanding day at work in the city centre.

Our salon is open every day from 08:30 - 03:30, so a hammam session works after work or late at night too. To plan your session and timing, give us a call — we'll answer your questions and find the time that suits you best.
